Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar shared his two cents about "Girls" on The Huffington Post last week and while the review was mostly negative -- "a black dildo would have sufficed and cost less," he said of Donald Glover's appearance -- series creator Lena Dunham said she tried to ignore it.
"I have to admit, I only skimmed it," Dunham told E! Online at the Directors Guild Of America Awards. "It seemed like a mixed review and I have a policy about not reading those."
Dunham told E! Online she shared the news with her father Carroll Dunham.
"I blurted out to my dad, 'Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reviewed "Girls,"'" Dunham continued. "And he said, 'I don't even know how to process that. I don't even know what that means.'"
Abdul-Jabbar is the latest in a string of surprising "Girls" critics. James Franco blogged about the series for The Huffington Post in May, writing that the men on the show were "the biggest bunch of losers" he's ever seen.
“I think someone told James Franco that it’s his duty to have an opinion on everything that happens in culture," Dunham told Entertainment Weekly. "We are going to find out that he’s in the CIA, he’s a fireman, and he’s going on the next moon mission with Lance Bass.”
"Girls" airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
