"We serve major face on a red carpet when we feel like lying face down."

After a night out at the Met Gala landed her in the hospital, Lena Dunham is giving her followers an update on her health scare.

The “Girls” star cut her evening short during fashion’s biggest night on Monday when she was rushed to the emergency room due to an undisclosed medical issue. A source later confirmed to HuffPost that she was at home resting, suggesting the incident was related to Dunham’s pre-existing battles with endometriosis.

The actress gave an update in an Instagram post on Thursday, thanking her followers for their support and explaining what exactly went down at the Met Gala. Apparently, Dunham experienced complications from surgery.

“Although I’m much healthier than I was a year ago, complications arose from my most recent endometriosis surgery,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself in the hospital (note: the Elizabeth Kennedy gown she wore to the Met Gala in the background). “When the healthcare of so many American women, especially our trans sisters, is at-risk- or already nonexistent - I am lucky to be in the position to seek help when I’m in pain.”

For years, Dunham has been an outspoken advocate of endometriosis awareness. In April, she underwent her fifth surgery to alleviate the pain resulting from the chronic disorder, which at the time she hoped would never return.

In her lengthy Instagram caption, Dunham went on to reiterate that a person’s illness has nothing to with their character, whether they’re walking the carpet for the Met Gala or going to work.

“I also want to remind all the women suffering from chronic illness that we aren’t weak - quite the opposite, actually. We do our jobs with skill even when we’re struggling,” she wrote. “We care [for] families even when we can hardly care for ourselves. We serve major face on a red carpet when we feel like lying face down would be more appropriate. I’ll always be proud of those Met Gala pics - not just because I felt beautiful, surrounded by art and magic, hugging my best friend tightly, but because they’re evidence that women contain steely multitudes.”

She also made sure to give a shoutout to LGBTQ clinics and Planned Parenthood, which she represented at the Met Gala with the organization’s pin, by encouraging her followers to donate their time and money.

Get well soon, Lena.
