Fans went crazy when ABC announced that it was canceling “Nashville” ahead of the Season 4 finale in May. Although the show’s ratings had dropped a bit, its fan base was one of the network’s most loyal and the news came as a shock. Still, the cast was just as surprised as the Nashies by all the ups and downs, even when ― HOORAY! ― the show was renewed by CMT.

“We literally found out that it got picked up [along with] the rest of the world, like same time, all online,” series regular Lennon Stella told The Huffington Post during an AOL Build interview with her sister Maisy on Wednesday. “We found out that it got canceled online ... we read it with the rest of the world.”

The siblings, who play on-screen sisters Maddie and Daphne Conrad on the show, said that when the cancellation news first hit, the cast and crew got together for a final farewell.

“We did have a little cast meetup and it was so sad and we were all just playing music that we had done on the show,” Maisy said. “Everyone was just bawling. We had producers there and the writers. It was just amazing. But now that won’t be the last time that we’re all together, so that’s very good.”

“We’re so excited to get back shooting and get back with everyone,” Lennon added.

As for who will be joining them when they return to the set in August, the girls said they still only know what everyone else on the internet does. So far, it’s been reported that Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere will revive their roles as Rayna James and Juliette Barnes, respectively, and that Will Chase (Luke Wheeler) and Aubrey Peeples (Layla Grant) won’t return. Rumor has it that co-stars Charles Esten, Sam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson, Clare Bowen and Chris Carmack will also remain series regulars.

“We don’t know for sure, but that would be absolutely devastating,” Lennon told HuffPost of whether or not some of the cast members were leaving. “We hope that doesn’t happen.”
