Leonardo Da Vinci To Hit The Big Screen With 'Leonardo Live' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Leonardo Da Vinci: The Movie

In an age of crossovers, it seems like artists of every medium eventually transitions over to the big screen. The latest manifestation of this trend? Leonardo Da Vinci. His exhibition at the London National Gallery, which the BBC suggested could be 'the greatest exhibition ever,' has opened up a new door for Da Vinci, one the ingenious inventor and artist probably never would have imagined.

Leonardo's hit exhibition will be broadcast world-wide as 'Leonardo Live,' an 100-minute film which will hit U.S. venues as well as screenings in select other countries. The film opens February 16, 2012, and walks through the exhibition 'Leonardo: Painter at the Court of Milan' with an in-depth commentary of selected works. The film will give those around the world a chance to see the legendary works which are too fragile to go on tour.

Although the 'Mona Lisa' is not featured in the collection, 'Salvator Mundi,' a newly-discovered and never before exhibited piece is drawing a lot of attention. Tickets for the sold-out exhibition are being scalped online for hundreds of dollars; UK eBay's opening bid is $250. For a much more reasonable price, check out the latest example of high culture being projected to a mass audience. Will Leonardo Da Vinci be the next Hollywood heartthrob? Only time will tell...
