In May of last year, President Obama gave all public schools in America an ultimatum: allow transgender students to use whichever bathroom corresponds with their gender identity or risk losing federal aid. The law has been called “unconstitutional” by many states.

Obama’s exhaustive work protecting the rights of L.G.B.T.Q. people in the United States was a revolutionary step forward. Unfortunately, President Trump has decided to rescind some of these protections in an effort to appease the right. The most controversial of which being the transgender bathroom policy.

This is a problem. By revoking this policy President Trump has made literally no one safer and put thousands of people in danger. So how does this make sense?

Chris Lawrence is here to explain why policing which bathroom people are using is not only silly but unconstitutional. He, like most young people, says that he doesn’t care who’s in the stall beside him. This isn’t about who uses what bathroom, but who can exist in what space.
