Addressing LGBT History Month In Schools Is 'Sexual Assault On Children,' Says Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver

Teaching LGBT History Month In Schools Is 'Sexual Assault On Children,' Pundit Claims

LGBT History Month is being recognized at colleges, universities and other educational institutions across the nation, but not everyone is thrilled by October's proceedings.

Among those to condemn LGBT History Month was Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver. Staver, who has made no secret of his stance on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the past, says presenting historical LGBT figures in schools a form of "sexual assault on our children," and calls on parents to "stand up and demand that public schools focus on the essentials of learning and not become vehicles of a sexualized agenda.”

"If parents think our school children should be focused on science and math, not sex and murder, they need to talk to teachers, principals, and school boards to ensure that this program is stopped," Staver is quoted as saying in an article on Liberty Counsel's website.

"Enough is enough! The innocence of our children is under assault in the public schools," he continued.

Staver isn't the first to speak out against LGBT History Month in the media. Earlier this week, Roger Hines, a former Georgia state legislator and retired high school teacher, called the promotion of LGBT History Month on the Kennesaw State University campus "a slap in the face" to local citizens In a Sept. 29 column in the Cherokee Tribune.

Mistakenly referring to LGBT History Month as "Gay Pride Month," Hines noted:

Let’s take a look at what that month-long party portends: parades, forums where “sexual equality” is touted, exhibits teaching gay history, coming-out testimonies, probably some well-known speakers who will tell KSU students how backward Georgia is, and most certainly a trek to Piedmont Park for something or another.

He went on note:

I will never believe that most Georgians approve of KSU or any of their other universities pressing or encouraging the gay agenda. But universities do it anyhow. It is the way of academia. They ply state legislators for funds and then foster such things as gay politics that neither state legislators nor their constituents approve of. This should cease.
