LGBT Voters Could Make The Difference In Tight Presidential Race, Logo TV Poll Finds

Could LGBT Voters Be The Pivotal Voice In Obama's Re-Election?

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) voters could have a huge impact on Election Day, a new Logo TV poll has found.

Conducted by Harris Interactive, the new poll (which was created as a follow-up to a similar survey published earlier in August) found that President Barack Obama's 44-point lead among LGBT voters since has expanded to 52 points.

On the flip side, the poll also found that the debates "appeared to be a boon" for GOP candidate Mitt Romney, with 17 percent of current voters surveyed said they decided to vote for him in the past month, as opposed to just seven percent of Obama's voters who felt similarly.

“The attention paid to contraception and rape exceptions for abortion by Republican candidates around the country has reinforced LGBT voters’ role in a broader coalition for social justice," Dr. Kenneth Sherrill, Professor of Political Science at New York's Hunter College, said in an email statement. “LGBT voters have long supported these issues and understand that the issues of privacy and bodily autonomy found in reproductive rights also are central to LGBT rights."

The results will be addressed in greater depth Nov. 5 on "NewNowNext Vote with Wanda Sykes," a Logo special featuring appearances by Barney Frank and Thomas Roberts among others.
