Noel Gallagher, former lead guitarist and backing vocalist in a little band called Oasis, has a new song out, "The Death of You and Me," off his forthcoming solo album, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, which is set for release on Oct. 17.
One person is openly pissed off by this -- Noel's brother Liam, and none other than the former frontman of Oasis. To say their relationship has devolved since they broke up in August of 2009 would be an understatement. Back in January of this year, Liam accused Noel of taking material for his new album from Oasis sessions during Dig Out Your Soul.
"I've heard his fucking new record 'cos I fucking sung on half of it," Liam said. "Fucking nonsense."
Given the obvious tension, many are calling what Liam tweeted earlier today another zing in the war of words:
Earlier this month, when Noel announced the release date for his solo album, Liam also tweeted one word: "SHITBAG."
Liam released his own album, with his band Beady Eyes, earlier this year to generally favorable reviews.
Sibling distractions aside, this track is a promising view into Noel's forthcoming album. While the lyrics leave a little wanting ("I can feel the storm clouds sucking up my soul, high tide, life is getting faster, and no one has the answer, I try to face the day though…"), it's a pretty lush track melodically, as is the video. It's what you might expect from Gallagher, but it also has the slightest twang that lends a pleasant element of surprise.
