A New York woman is facing criminal charges after authorities say she got married 10 times without ever getting divorced.
When Liana Barrientos, now 39, filed for a marriage license in February 2010 to a Bronx man named Salle Keita, she indicated on the form that she had never been married before, according to the New York Times. Prosecutors in the Bronx, however, say that's not true.
State records indicate Barrientos married nine different men throughout New York state between 1999 and 2002, and none of those marriages had been dissolved, CBS New York reports. Some of those marriages occurred only days apart.
The Bronx district attorney’s office told the Times that the Department of Homeland Security, which deals with immigration, is "involved" in the case.
A criminal complaint obtained by the New York Daily News states that each previous marriage certificate included her birth date and location, social security number, parents’ names and signature.
Barrientos is scheduled Friday to be arraigned on felony fraud charges for allegedly lying on the 2010 marriage license application.
A Facebook account identified by the New York Times as belonging to Barrientos states that she "got engaged" in July 2013.
A man who answered the door at an apartment where Barrientos previously lived told both the New York Times and the New York Daily news that she moved into a homeless shelter a few months ago.
