Ruth Bader Ginsburg Slammed For Officiating Gay Wedding By Liberty Counsel

Supreme Court Judge Brought 'Shame On America' By Officiating Gay Wedding, Group Claims

Ruth Bader Ginsburg made history last week when she became the first U.S. Supreme Court Justice to officiate a same-sex wedding, just two months after the Defense of Marriage Act (or DOMA) was ruled unconstitutional.

Now, the historically anti-gay religious group Liberty Counsel is claiming that Ginsburg not only brought "shame to America" through her actions, but that the nation is "galloping full speed ahead" in the direction of Gomorrah.

Adamantly insisting that the issue of marriage is outside the realm of government control, Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber and Daniel Schmid sound off on the steady progression of same-sex marriage legalization, insisting at one point that "we've seen that a federal recognition of same-sex marriage essentially results in the criminalization of Christianity."

In the past, the Liberty Council has served as a megaphone for right-wing pundits and fundamentalist Christians, offering resistance with virtually every legal victory for the mainstream lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) movement. Following Gov. Chris Christie signing the bill that banned gay conversion therapy in New Jersey, the group announced that they would be filing suit against the state, invoking the case of Jerry Sandusky and claiming that gay identity stems from childhood molestation.

The Liberty Council has also claimed that the protections afforded LGBT people through the Employment Non-Discrimination Act are "insanity," and stated that polygamy and incest are "inevitable" following the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Justice Ginsburg recently stated that growing acceptance of gay marriage reflects how the "genius of our Constitution, and of our society, is how much more embracive we have become than we were at the beginning."
