Without a doubt, self-fulfillment is one of the most important desires that we seek in our lives. Our state of self-fulfillment can affect our overall wellbeing, the level of happiness and our relationship with the surrounding. Throughout my professional music career as a violinist, many people have shared with me that I should consider myself “very lucky” because I do what I love doing most. It made me wonder: Do most people feel they have “fulfilling lives”? Is it possible that we don’t necessarily know what would make us feel fulfilled or better yet how to get there?

I have heard about life-coaching for years and more recently at a gathering of a few close friends, someone suggested “life coaching” is “a marketing scam” and that anyone could become a “life coach”. I’ve also heard this statement before. It is unfortunate that most people don’t quite understand what life-coaching is, its merits and benefits, not to mention that most people don't have the privilege of participating in a session with an effective life coach.

The common mistake that I found, when it comes to life-coaching, is the misconceived affiliation with the psychological therapeutic field - people believe that it is some sort of mental health counseling. Therapy can be extremely beneficial, but life-couching is simply not related. In other words: life-coaching would benefit you, when there is nothing “wrong” in your life when your mental health is perfectly fine, and you won’t have to sit on a sofa and dig into your past.

Life couching is all about getting on with your life. Imagine looking at your life the way you would be looking at a business plan, divided to categories such as: personal relationship, family, business, hobbies etc. and having the opportunity to evaluate your performance (maybe even give yourself a score), in a professional manner, while accessing what is missing in order to “optimize your performance”, and most important: come up with a strategic plan to take you there.

Too good to be true?

If our purpose in life is to reach our full potential in every aspect of our lives, it just so happens that we are the ones to hold our uniquely designed “key to success,” and we know best how to put together our own business master plan, and even add the special personal customization touch. Although it is common to think that we advise others better than ourselves, not only that it is not true, as a matter of fact, we have the potential to become our best advisors, simply because we know what we want in life, our deepest desires, our background, skills, experience, abilities, character, potential, passion, dreams and also: how to get there.

With that being said, one might be wondering how come people constantly feel that they fail in reaching their full potential? Funny thing is that although we have all the answers, we don’t necessarily take the time to listen to ourselves in a professional manner, the way we would do for others or for our job. Not only that we don’t invest the time in creating a plan to advance our own lives, often times we get preoccupied by our emotional state of mind instead of focusing on how to move our lives forward.

This is when life couching comes into place; a professional guidance to assist us in putting together a customized plan, with the purpose of moving our lives forward, while reaching our full potential in every area of our lives.
