A view into the life of Sarah Davenport as she struggles with late stage Lyme Disease.

Photos & words by David Norbut

On a crisp November morning I arrive to spend some time with Sarah. I am greeted first by Sparky, a tiny yet mighty rat terrier, donning a sweater with a lightening bolt emblazoned on his back. Seconds later, Sarah slowly comes to the door and welcomes me into her home with open arms and a slight smile. These days she spends most of her time in a makeshift bedroom that appears to have once been the dining room. The space is connected to the kitchen and still holds a china cabinet, though it's now filled with shoeboxes of medication and supplements rather than plates and glasses. As we sit and talk, I start to photograph the photographer herself in her new role as the fighter. As I attempt to light up the room more, Sarah starts to go into a seizure, and is barely able to warn me "don't freak out." After a few minutes and some meds she starts to come back to a calm state and is slowly able to start talking with me again. It is very quiet, as Sarah is home alone while her husband, Kevin, works. We talked a while, mostly about art & photography, before we hit record and let Sarah tell her story.

Below you can see the images of our time together and listen to Sarah as she begins to scratch the surface of her story.
