After more than three decades in the news business, Lin Sue Cooney is leaving her post at 12 News, the anchor announced on air Wednesday night.

Joining Channel 12 in 1984, Cooney began her career 34 years ago in Beaumont, Texas.

"I'm not going to miss the deadline pressure of the crazy hours or the heartbreaking stories that we have to report every day, but I am going to miss all the beautiful people that I work with," she said during the 6 p.m. broadcast of "Arizona Nightly News" on Wednesday.

She said she will be joining the executive team at Hospice of the Valley after May, a non-profit dedicated to providing health care for a better quality of life.

Cooney also announced the news Thursday via Twitter:

Cooney currently anchors "12 News," "Arizona Nightly News" and "12 News at 10 p.m. with Mark Curtis." She was named Best Anchor by the Phoenix chapter of American Women in Radio and Television.
