March 20th is an eclipsed day. We will be surfing a New Moon under Pisces. Dolphins in pairs swim while crossing each other's path in perfect harmony, leaving a wake patterns resembling the yin-yang symbol. The dolphins whistle and click to activate their echolocation systems. The dolphins can tell where they are by listening...
The new moon always reminds me of Istanbul with her milliard mosques adorned with crescent moons on top of pregnant domes and erect towers.
And from these towers, the Call to Prayer, five times a day according to the passage of the chariot of the Sun, summoning the neighbors, reminding them to listen.
Pisces, the sign of mysticism, dance and poetry, always conjures in my mind's eye the image of Rumi and his whirling dervishes. Last year, I had the fortune of witnessing the festivities in honor of Mevlana Rumi in Konya, where the celebration of Sema takes place. Sema, which means "listen" in Persian, Arabic and Hebrew, is such an appropriate name for a ceremony that involves no words but only music and silent movement. How synchronistic that the peoples in most need of listening to each other to resolve much of the world's problems happen to share the same word for hearing: Israelis, Arabs, Turks and Iranians.
The most powerful prayer in Hebrew, a magical spell of unity, was given by Moses to the Ancient Hebrews to spread around the world: Shma (listen) God is One.
Why listen and not look?
In Exodus 24:7, Moses speaks to the people on the slopes of Mount Sinai and lays out the covenant between God and Israel. Upon hearing the contract, to seal the deal the people collectively respond: "We will obey and we will listen." Why listen? Why Shema? Why Sema? And why when the prophets communicated with God they say they HEAR, bat-kol, Hebrew for "daughter of sound." What is it about the auditory sense rather than the visual, that connects us to the one?
וַיִּקַּח סֵפֶר הַבְּרִית, וַיִּקְרָא בְּאָזְנֵי הָעָם; וַיֹּאמְרוּ, כֹּל אֲשֶׁר-דִּבֶּר יְהוָה נַעֲשֶׂה וְנִשְׁמָע And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the hearing of the people; and they said: 'All that the LORD hath spoken will we hear, and obey.'
First and foremost, our eyes can deceive us. Nothing personal, it's in their nature. From optical illusions to falling in love with people's appearances, our eyes gets us into trouble. In addition, we have two blind spots horizontally and another two vertically, which means we can only see half of creation. On the other hand, our ears afford us the ability to hear things we cannot see. Close your eyes for a second. You will be able to hear what is above, below, to the sides. Even what is happening 20 stories down on the street or if an airplane passes thousands of meters above. Our ears can even record sounds coming from inside of us. And while we cannot see our lover's heart, we can surely hear it.
Consider the following dialogue:
Jane: So will you come with me to my sister's engagement party?
John: Hmmm, we'll see.
Jane: OK, I get it, you are not coming.
John: I didn't say that. Let's see what happens.
Jane: Come on! I need you there. If this guy ends up also being a jerk, we will have to deal with him for the rest of our lives.
John: So you want me to be the one to tell your sister she should not get married?
Jane: She listens to you. John, Please!!!
John: OK, Ok! I hear you. I'll come.
John started off with an obvious negative attitude toward attending Jane's sister's party. He expressed it subtly by using the words "I'll see," thus injecting a certain degree of skepticism about him going with Jane. However, at the end, after he is convinced, he declares "I hear you," which demonstrates he will come. As the Ancient Hebrews declared: "We obey and listen." In modern Hebrew as well, hearing is more definite than seeing; listening stronger than watching. We say נראה (see or look) when we are less certain, leaving the option of "bailing out," but as we saw above, when we need to seal a pact with God, we use נשמע (hear or listen). In Hungarian, they express skepticism by saying "Majd meglátom!" (I will see) and if you want to express trust they use "Ő hallgat rád," to listen. Shhhh...listening to the Solar eclipse on March 20th
Since an eclipse, by default, blocks either the light of the Sun or the Moon, it is a time when seeing is more difficult and therefore, a perfect period to focus on listening. Pisces is the sign of dreams, so start paying attention to your nightly narratives from now until the 22nd. You can use the Kabbalistic technique of "Dream Quest." Find an aspect of your life that needs more clarity, and before you go to sleep meditate on that issue, asking your dreams for guidance. Make sure to write your dreams when you wake up, and if you don't remember, try to record your feelings when you wake up.
What to do:
Since a solar eclipse is always a new moon, it represents a new beginning. Considering that it takes place a few hours before the Spring Equinox, it will be colored by strong red frequencies of Aries that begins a few hours after the eclipse. The Spring Equinox, true to its name, helps us spring into action. Given this:
- Dance, meditate, take a yoga class, start a martial art or a training regimen.
- Spend time in water, a bath with sea-salt, swim, surf, ski, or hike by a water source.
- Take it easy, don't overbook your schedule from the 19th to the 21st of March.
- If you want to get pregnant, the eclipse is a good time to meditate with your future child's souls and ask him/her to be reborn.
Follow the white rabbit of synchronicities! They abound during any eclipse, but they come gushing down during Pisces lunation.
Watch and write your dreams.
Since on April 4th we have the lunar eclipse in Libra (Passover Night), some of the stories instigated by the 20th of March eclipse will become manifest or clearer by then. The finale of the story will happen in September 2015 (13th and 27th), when the opposing eclipses take place.
