Live & Dangerous: Governors Ball 2015

The famously muddy festival, held yearly on Randall's Island in New York, will take place from June 5-7 and features a stacked lineup for fans of pretty much any genre. Headliners for this year's fest include well-known acts - but we think it's the emerging acts that everyone will be talking about.

Festival season is in full swing, and one of our favorites - Governors Ball - is right around the corner. The famously muddy festival, held yearly on Randall's Island in New York, will take place from June 5-7 and features a stacked lineup for fans of pretty much any genre. Headliners for this year's fest include well-known acts like Drake, The Black Keys, and Lana Del Rey - but we think it's the emerging acts that everyone will be talking about. Here are three stand-outs not to miss.

WHO: Twin Shadow
WHEN: Friday, June 5th @ 3:00pm
WHERE: Big Apple Stage
WHY: Fresh off the heels of his major label debut, Eclipse (released March 17th), Twin Shadow has fully embraced his pop sensibility and notably changed up his look and sound from his last release, 2012's Confess. Singer/mastermind George Lewis has always made music openly influenced by a new wave, 80s sound - but Eclipse takes this influence and spins it into something bigger, bolder, and uniquely Twin Shadow. Live, Lewis has also finally come into his own- his current tour has been praised for its tight, electrifying sets and Lewis' playful interaction with the audience. His set at Governors Ball is a must see!

WHO: St. Vincent
WHEN: Friday, June 5th @ 8:00pm
WHERE: Big Apple Stage
WHY: St. Vincent isn't exactly a newcomer (her debut album was in 2007), but it's her most recent work that garnered the Brooklyn born songstress the most well-deserved attention. 2014's self-titled St. Vincent took home a Grammy for "Best Alternative Music Album", and was featured on a slew of 'Best of 2014" lists. The American art rocker, whose real name is Annie Clark, also happens to throw an incredible live show - complete with guitar shredding, genre-bending solos that leaves audiences in awe. An essential act to catch live at Gov Ball this year.

WHO: Flume
WHEN: Saturday, June 6th @ 8pm
WHERE: Big Apple Stage
WHY: At the ripe young age of 23, newcomer Flume (real name Henry Streten) is already well known in his homeland of Australia, with his debut album, Flume, reaching #1 (ahead of One Direction!) on the country's charts. Since his 2012 debut, he has slowly been making waves internationally with his break out hit 'Holdin On', and the help of some well-known remixes for Lorde, Arcade Fire, and Sam Smith. Flume is a master at combining intimate, iridescent beats with heavy drops, creating a sound that can go from 0-60 in a matter of seconds. His live shows are in high demand (he sold out his last 3 shows at Terminal 5 within hours), so don't miss him at Governor's Ball this year.
