Photographs of a massive fire that engulfed a west London apartment building early Wednesday showed a dramatic sight: almost the entire, 24-story structure consumed in flames.
More than 200 firefighters and 20 ambulance crews were dispatched to the site in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea. As the night stretched into morning, London Fire Brigade Commissioner Dany Cotton confirmed thatthere were “a number of fatalities.” More than two dozen people were also treated at area hospitals.
The tower was still smoldering hours after the blaze began, with a trail of smoke stretching for miles across London. Here’s a look at some images from the scene:
