Long Hair Tips: 3 Styling Tricks That Minimize Damage (VIDEO)

3 Ways To Keep Long Hair Healthy

Long hair has its upsides (the styling options seems endless), but with all that length it can be hard to keep it looking healthy. To keep hair strong, shiny and prevent breakage, avoiding heat damage is an incredibly important step. And even if you feel you must use hot tools, there are workarounds for minimizing damage.

As we see in the video above, hair architect Keith Campbell has three clever styling tricks for gals with long hair. First up is a loose, low ponytail. Just remember to not pull at the root, which can also cause breakage. For a face-framing style, use a large-barrel curling iron to create loose waves in the first half of the head. (There's no need to heat style all over.) Use your fingers to loosen the curls and blend them with the back half of your hair. Finally, Campbell pulls out a retro styling trick: Velcro rollers. "It's old school, but it works," he says. Take large sections of hair and roll them towards the head. Secure the roller with a bobby pin. After 30 minutes, you'll have bouncy, voluminous hair that doesn't require any heat styling.
