Legendary rock pioneer Lou Reed died over the weekend, The Rolling Stone reports. He was 71.

Reed was best known for his work as a guitarist, singer and songwriter for the Velvet Underground and had a profound impact on American culture, introducing avant garde rock and pop art to mainstream music.
