Love Inc. Wedding Magazine Shatters Gender Norms With Striking Photo Shoot

Wedding Magazine Shatters Gender Norms With Striking Photo Shoot

Love is love -- no matter the couple's gender, orientation or identity.

That's the statement Brittny Drye, the editor-in-chief of website and digital magazine Love Inc., is hoping to make with the publication's latest cover. Androgynous model Dylan Stephens graces the cover in a caped Inbal Dror wedding gown, looking positively beautiful.

The issue also features a photo shoot with Stephens donning both bridal and groom wear -- everything from an all-white pantsuit to a classic black tux to a sparkly ball gown.

"It was important to us that we remove gender from the equation and put the focus back on the individual," Drye told The Huffington Post. "And to celebrate that that individual found the person they want to spend the rest of their life with."

The cover shoot was the brainchild of Drye and fashion editor Krista Roser. They wanted to inspire readers fashion-wise, while also making a statement.

"There is such a variety of human orientations and identities, and we wanted to showcase as many different types of wedding fashions without feeling restricted by society-driven gender barriers," Drye said.

Initially, Drye admits she was apprehensive about the shoot (she was worried about it "looking campy"), but once she saw Stephens in the Kelly Faetanini ball gown, all of her worries fell away.

"We were treading a fine line between people interpreting this as extraordinary or insulting," she wrote in a blog post. "However, after I saw Dylan come out in the first look...I cried. I literally cried. As makeup artist Cali Jeffries and hairstylist Jessica Watkins were putting the finishing touches on him, I knew that something truly magical was happening."
