Grad Student Identified As Third Fatality In Marathon Bombings

Lu Lingzi, a Chinese graduate student at Boston University, is reportedly the third fatality in Monday's Boston Marathon bombings.

According to The Associated Press, Lu's name was released by The Shenyang Evening News on its official Twitter-like microblog account. An editor at the newspaper said her father confirmed the death.

Lu and two friends were watching the race near the finish line when the explosions occurred, BU Today reported. One of her friends, BU grad student Zhou Danling, was seriously injured in the blasts. She's in stable condition at Boston Medical Center. A third friend, currently unidentified, was unharmed.

A native of Shenyang, China, Lu studied international trade at the Beijing Institute of Technology, The New York Times reported. At the time of her death, she was pursuing a graduate degree in mathematics and statistics from BU.

China “denounces and opposes any kind of bombing that is targeted at civilians,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a briefing.

The other two fatalities in the April 15 bombings were Martin Richard, 8, of Boston, and Krystle Campbell, 29, of Medford, Mass. More than 170 others were also injured.
