"Wonder Woman" Lynda Carter twirled her way into our living rooms as one of television's first female superheroes. In the 80s, she gave up her Hollywood career and moved to the Washington, D.C., area. On Sunday night's upcoming episode of "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" Carter shares what happened after her iconic role ended.
Carter says she began a struggle with alcoholism in her 20s. "I think I drank because there was unhappiness in my first marriage, and I would have a drink for the same reason anybody else would," she says in the above video. "As I look back, I seem to be more inebriated than other people. "
"You think that you're keeping it from everyone," Carter says. "But the people that are around you, they know."
At the same time Lynda was battling this disease, her second husband, Robert Altman, was charged with bank fraud. After a lengthy trial, he was found not guilty in 1993.
"It cost us everything we had," Carter says. "We had to rebuild. Things like that can push you apart, but we got closer."
After the trial, Carter says she went into recovery. "So he helped me, I helped him," she says. "He is my knight in shining armor."
