Macaulay Culkin, 'National Enquirer': Tabloid Defends Report Of Heroin Addiction

'National Enquirer' Defends Disturbing Claims About Macaulay Culkin

The National Enquirer is defending a disturbing story published that claims that former child actor Macaulay Culkin will be dead in six months due to his heroin addiction.

Backlash against the salacious article immediately ensued when it was published last week. Culkin's reps denied the allegations of drug use to The Huffington Post, saying, "The report in the National Enquirer that Macaulay Culkin is addicted to heroin and assorted hallucinogenics is not only categorically without merit, but it is also impossibly and ridiculously fictitious."

Meanwhile GossipCop, which denies the legitimacy of the Culkin story, said that the tabloid's most recent headline is "garbage."

"Usually, when the Enquirer makes up stuff, it’s relatively harmless speculation from a trashy tab that doesn’t care about the facts," the website declared. "Splashing this garbage on its cover is far worse."

But the National Enquirer backed the article (entitled "'Home Alone’ star Macaulay Culkin Addicted To Heroin – Only 6 Months To Live!") in a statement posted to its website, adding that it hopes the published allegations will act as a wake-up call for the 31-year-old actor:

Our advice to Macaulay is to seek professional help to avoid the same tragic fate of other beloved celebrities, including Whitney Houston who died earlier this year.

We believe that the former child star should be doing everything he can to get the treatment he so desperately needs – and which could have saved the life of his friend Elijah Rosello.

Her family confirmed to The ENQUIRER that she did drugs with Macaulay before her drug-related death in March.

The Enquirer's brazen statement also challenged Culkin to a blood test if the actor's reps continued to deny the report.

"It is a fact that as The ENQUIRER tracked Whitney Houston’s descent into her drug hell, she refused to admit she had a problem – and Whitney was represented by some of those people now denying Macaulay’s potentially deadly problems," the publication wrote.

Among other things, the tabloid reported that Culkin spends up to $6,000 per month on drugs like heroin and the prescription painkiller Oxycodone and that his breakup with actress Mila Kunis spurred his downward spiral. Culkin and Kunis split in 2011, after dating for nine years; Kunis is now rumored to be dating "That '70s Show" co-star Ashton Kutcher.

Eyewitnesses reportedly told the Enquirer that Culkin once almost overdosed.

In February, a photo of Culkin looking pale and gaunt raised eyebrows, but his rep insisted that he was "in perfectly good health."

Culkin catapulted to childhood stardom when he starred in the 1990s classic, "Home Alone," as Kevin McCallister. His last film role was in the 2007 indie flick "Sex and Breakfast."
