Mom Writes Honest Post About Wishing She Hadn't Breastfed Her Baby

Because motherhood is about choice.

With all the care a new mom gives her baby, it’s easy to forget that she needs to take care of herself, as well.

That’s the message behind Australian reality star Maddi Carter’s refreshingly honest Instagram post about breastfeeding.

The former “House Rules” star welcomed a second child with her husband Lloyd Wright in October.

“I wish I never breastfed my baby,” the mom wrote under a photo of 4-month-old Marlow.

The mom then writes she stopped breastfeeding three weeks ago, and outlines the reasons that it was the best choice for her.

“I’m a better mum and better wife,” she wrote. “I have more energy. I actually have gaps where bub is NOT on my body so I get to miss him a little. I have more time for my other son. I am more affectionate towards my husband.”

She adds, “I don’t dread going out in public. I enjoy my clothes again as I’m not leaking everywhere or having to wear uncomfortable maternity bras. I’m able to leave the house by myself without getting anxiety. I’m able to go to the gym again.”

Although she anticipates some negative reactions, she sums up by stressing the importance of choice in motherhood. Because ultimately, what’s important is that mom and baby are healthy and happy.

“There are so many different ways to be a mum,” she writes. “But what many mums forget is that MUM HAS TO BE HAPPY TOO.”

Everyone certainly looks pretty happy in the photo.
