Maddow: What's With Jeb Bush's Weird Sound Effects?

Donald Trump’s recent anti-immigrant comments -- in which he characterized immigrants coming from Mexico as rapists and drug dealers -- have the Republican presidential contenders taking sides.

Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), for instance, has said that he agrees with Trump’s underlying point, while Jeb Bush and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have strongly condemned the real estate mogul.

Rachel Maddow addressed the topic on her show Monday, noting the split within the Republican ranks. But then she homed in on Bush’s penchant for inflecting his remarks with sound effects.

“I did not expect this to be one of the awesome things about covering Jeb Bush running for president, but this is a surprising and kind of awesome thing that he does,” Maddow said. “He makes really weird noises.”

Maddow cut to a clip of Bush responding to Trump, who the former Florida governor says does not reflect the Republican Party’s views.

“Politically, we’re going to win when we’re hopeful and optimistic and big and broad instead of errrrr, errrrr, just angry all the time,” Bush said, pantomiming anger.

Maddow also noted Bush’s sound effect for Twitter chatter, which she said “sound[s] kind of like a turkey or another kind of bird.”

“I didn’t expect it to be like this covering Jeb Bush, but this is part of the joy of covering him,” Maddow said.
