MADE By DWC Opens, Benefits Downtown Women's Center

MADE Cafe and Boutique Opening Friday

Who: Shoppers looking for handmade, locally crafted items who want to help fight poverty and homelessness in LA
What: MADE by DWC is a new boutique opening in downtown LA that will offer unique gifts, handmade products, and tea and coffee. It's got a cozy, eclectic vibe, but with a twist: the store employs women from the Downtown Women's Center and items on sale have been crafted by these women as well. Doors officially open to the public on Friday.
When: Friday, April 29th, 8am-4pm
Where: 442 S. San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, CA
Why: MADE by DWC is a socially-conscious store whose mission is to help LA women break the cycle of poverty and chronic unemployment. Teaming up with Bloomingdales Century City and Project H, the Downtown Women's Center was able to provide women at the Center with retail management training, store merchandising expertise, and product development skills in order to open up MADE. The women have been given the opportunity to make and products while receiving job readiness training. The store hopes that this model will help women at the shelter enter the job market. All proceeds from MADE by DWC benefit the downtown shelter. Anyone with an impulse to buy something new and unique should head to MADE and get their shopping fix while promoting local job growth and training. Be the first to sample the goods on Friday!
