Madeleine McCann Anniversary: Parents Feel 'Closer' To Truth About Missing Daughter

Madeleine McCann's Parents Say Police Making Progress

Madeleine McCann's parents feel "closer" to knowing the truth about what happened to their daughter, who disappeared six years ago today while the British family vacationed in Portugal.

"With the review the [Metropolitan Police] have been doing over the last two years I think we are closer to finding out what happened," Gerry McCann said to Sky News in a recent interview. "We certainly feel they're making excellent progress."

Gerry and his wife Kate discovered that 3-year-old Madeleine was missing from their rented Praia da Luz apartment when they returned from eating tapas in a nearby restaurant with friends.

Portugal closed its investigation years ago, ruling out the parents as suspects. Scotland Yard continues to investigate. Their search includes verifying the identity of young girls around the world who resemble Madeleine.

In February, DNA tests proved that a lookalike in New Zealand was not the the little girl from central England.

Madeleien's younger siblings, twins, were not harmed during the alleged abduction. They are now 8; Madeleine would be almost 10.

Though they dream of being reunited with Madeleine, the family says they've developed a new kind of normalcy without her.

The family is scheduled to hold a service today in their village of Rothley, the Mirror reported.
