Madina Lake Bassist Hospitalized After BRUTAL Attack In Chicago

UPDATED STORY:

Matthew Leone, the bass player for Chicago-based band Madina Lake, remains hospitalized Friday after a brutal Tuesday attack in Chicago.

Madina Lake singer Nathan Leone described the events that led up to his brother's injuries in his blog on Wednesday, explaining that Matthew saw a woman being beaten on the street by her husband and intervened. From Nathan's blog:

Being the most amazing, strong, heroic and incredible person I know.. even though the guy was twice his size, Matthew intervened. He managed to subdue this guy for a second and since his wife was beat up pretty good called the cops.. as he did so the guy jumped him from behind and beat him. This guy did things I can't even type. After words, [sic] he and his beaten wife left Matthew unconsious [sic] on the street."

Matthew is in the hospital with a third of his skull removed as we wait for the swelling in his brain to go down. I'd rather not share any additional information at this time besides the fact that he acted as a hero (as he always would in any of these situations) and is paying a horrific price. Pease [sic] send all your love and good energy and vibrations to him. I've been and will be next to him throughout the entire recovery process.

The incident happened about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday on the 1300 block of West Ohio Street, police told the Chicago Tribune. From the Tribune:

The man was angry because his wife had returned home late that evening and began hitting her while the two were on the street, police said.

"Matthew saw something he didn't like to see and tried to step in and the guy turned on him instead, but then the two of them (the couple) walked off together like nothing happened,'' said a police officer who asked not be identified.

"He's a Good Samaritan who got the worst end of it," the source added. "This is a guy who if he had not gotten immediate treatment could have taken a bad, bad turn."

Police were able to catch up with the 33-year-old man who beat his wife and Leone. He has been charged with simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor, but hasn't been charged in Leone's attack...yet. The Tribune reports:

Police said they are waiting for Leone to give them details of the attack so they can compare them to what witnesses have said, officials said. Police also have been waiting for doctors to brief them on Leone's condition before seeking felony charges.

Matthew Leone grew up in northwest suburban Palatine and started popular local band The Blank Theory in 1998 with his brother, according to his Facebook profile. Madina Lake was formed in Chicago in 2005.

Nathan Leone told the Tribune his brother's condition is improving, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
