Madonna Shares Cryptic Instagram Post Amid Custody Battle

She's got to express herself.

Is Madonna trying to tell us something?

In the midst of her custody battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, the music icon shared a cryptic post on Instagram which some outlets are reporting is a reference to the problems she's facing with her son, Rocco.

The image, featuring a quote by Nietzsche, reads:

"One way of measuring the strength of an attacker is by looking at the sort of opponent he needs. You can always tell when something is growing because it will go looking for powerful adversaries or problems."

Madge captioned the image, "Preach Nietzsche. As we enter the 7 weeks of exile and redemption."

Madonna and Ritchie have been engaged in a custody battle regarding their son Rocco since late December. Over the holidays, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled that the 15-year-old, who was staying with his dad in London, had to return to New York to discuss his desired living arrangements with his mom. (Rocco reportedly refused to go home to Madonna, which lead her to take legal action.)

Rocco was on tour with his famous Material Girl mom, but wants to continue living in the U.K. with Ritchie, TMZ reports.

A source told the celebrity news site that the teen thinks living in London is more stable and loving; he also apparently feels that his mom is "too controlling."

The site notes that Ritchie has hired his own lawyer to support his case, with Rocco set to appear back in the U.S. for a hearing in February.

Madonna and Ritchie married in 2000 and split in 2008. Despite the divorce, the two shared joint custody of Rocco and their adopted son, David Banda.

The Huffington Post has reached out to both Madonna and Ritchie's reps and legal teams and will update this story if we receive new information.
