Magic Johnson Believes Lakers Would Beat Spurs In Playoffs

With just a few games remaining in the regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers are in a battle with the Utah Jazz for the eight seed in the Western Conference. At the other end of the standings, the San Antonio Spurs are only a half game out of the top seed with four games left, including once against the Lakers. If the Spurs were to capture the No. 1 seed and the Lakers were to hold on to that last spot then these longstanding rivals would clash in the first round.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Lakers legend and ESPN analyst Magic Johnson has already made his prediction if such a series were to take place. Perhaps even less surprisingly, he picked the Lakers.

"If the Lakers win and get into the eighth spot and if the Spurs end up in the one spot, the Lakers are going to beat the Spurs," Johnson told ESPN colleague Bill Simmons earlier this week.

After a loss to the Spurs earlier this year, Magic ripped his former team and even declared their season to be "over". Times have changed.

CineSport's Noah Coslov and's Mark Heisler discussed Johnson's comments. Heisler disagreed without hesitation. He wasn't alone. Simmons -- who cheered on Magic's prediction by interjecting with an enthusiastic "say it Magic!" -- disagreed on Twitter.
