Maine--America's Love Child

This electoral college map zooms into my adopted and loved state of Maine, here seen fashionably dressed in red and blue in stripes. Looks good on us. // We look like a ‘little America’ up here—half of this and half of that, red AND blue.

Love is hard work. We make it work. We live by Jesus’ words to love thy neighbor as yourself and love God above all things, and his other words ‘love your enemies and pray for them’. I offer a prayer challenge to you today, prayer for your enemy and love your enemy. I offer a statewide prayer challenge to Maine and a national prayer challenge to all churches on Sunday morning—let us pray for each other, let us pray for our president and pray our president-elect. We are each and all of us the love children of God. Called into being by Love by name.

Let’s pray: Dear God, we pray for the courage to love each other. We pray for our enemies. We pray for our neighbor. We lift up our hearts to You. We uplift up the hearts of our enemies from the love that lives within us—to the love that lives within them--from the treasure of our hearts. We pray for our president and his family and for our president elect and his family. We pray for each other. We pray that Your love lives within us, uplifts up and protects up. Amen.

Here’s a thought America: Pray for your enemy. Love your enemy.

Matthew 5:44

New International Version

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
