Maison Martin Margiela For H&M Is Reportedly Tanking (PHOTOS)

Those bra t-shirts aren't exactly flying off the shelves.

The latest H&M designer collaboration, Maison Martin Margiela for H&M, might not be so magical after all.

The New York Post's Page Six reports that the much-hyped Margiela line is tanking in sales compared to the retailer's white-hot previous collections. It's true that smaller crowds than usual turned out for the collection's November debut, but it looks like the more modest turnout transitioned into cooler revenue as well, about a month after the line debuted.

If the drapey tops and coats from the Belgian fashion house really aren't flying off the racks, we have a few hunches why:

  • Price. We usually stop at H&M for trendy pieces that are also cheap. Many of the Margiela items ranged from $200 to $400, whereas most H&M gear is priced under $100.
  • Too avant-garde for the average shopper. Margiela is the label that brought us the famous glove top -- and its H&M line, while toned down, stuck to the same aesthetic. For a consumer looking for pieces to wear to the office, lucite shoes and flowing blouses might have been a little too out there for the average boardroom.
  • The Post also speculates that H&M ordered more MMM inventory this time around, since previous collections -- Versace, Marni -- sold out too quickly.

If the rumors are true, Margiela joins at least one other H&M collab in less-than-stellar sale numbers: Anna Dello Russo's recent accessories line debuted to little fanfare in October.

Well, we're just glad THIS Margiela top never caught on.
