Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, Mama June’s daughter who was sexually abused at 8 by June’s then-boyfriend, Mark McDaniel — who was released from prison in March 2014 after serving a 10-year sentence for aggravated child molestation — describes the ordeal in detail, including her allegation about her mom’s reaction to the news.
“When we first met him, he was very, very nice, treated all of us girls right. And then, all of a sudden, one day, he just rubbed my leg. And then all of a sudden, it just started progressing a little closer to my areas. And then I realized, OK, something’s going on,” Anna recalls. “He started rubbing my back, getting closer up here, doing all this, and I’m like, OK, something weird is going on. I’m 8 years old. I don’t know anything about sex.”
Anna says the abuse progressed and continued for six months. “I finally realized it’s getting way too far. Stuff’s starting to hurt. Teachers are realizing something’s wrong with Anna,” she says. She then told her third grade teacher. Two weeks later, she claims she told her mother and that her mother questioned her allegations — claims her mother denies.
“I listed everything. He made me watch porn. He tried to have sex with me. He stripped me down, and she’s like, ‘That’s not the truth. He would never do that. He treated y’all so well. You’re not my daughter anymore. I’m done with you,’” Anna claims. She says that was the last time they spoke for almost three years.
