Identity theft victim Edward Jennings, 26, sees his victimhood as a blessing in disguise. “I feel like I’ve never really known who I was” says Jennings, “but to have an identity so recognizable that it’s able to be stolen? It’s everything I could’ve hoped for.” Jennings, who has been trying to find himself since sophomore year in college, has backpacked across Europe, grew and cuts his dreadlocks, tried to get into manga, and collect as many black friends as possible, but none of these has given him a stable sense of self.

Jennings says, “I thought I was just another face in the crowd. Now I know my identity is something distinct enough and desirable enough to be taken. Also, I’m already broke, that thief isn’t going to get shit out of this.”
