Man Hides In Septic Tank While Fleeing From Cops (VIDEO)

WATCH: The Worst Hiding Place Ever?

A man from Ceres, Calif. decided that the best place to hide from Stanislaus County deputies was a septic tank, reports CBS.

Deputies received a call about a man obstructing traffic yesterday, according to Fox. When they arrived on the scene and attempted to approach the suspect, he fled. The man ran around the back of the Arrow Inn motel, reports the LA Times. He then managed to fit himself into a septic tank with an opening no more than 18 inches in diameter, where he became stuck, the Modesto Bee tells us.

The Ceres Fire Department arrived on the scene to help extricate the uncooperative man, but he only emerged from the tank when his stepfather showed up, according to the Modesto Bee. At that point, he lit a cigarette and refused to be hosed off, despite having been submerged in human waste up to his shoulders.

It turned out that the man had a clean record and had not committed any crime. So why all the drama?

He told authorities that he fled because he had seen people do it on TV, reports Fox.

He was released to his family, who took him to a hospital to be checked out.
