Man Follows His Intuition, Ends Up Saving Unconscious Stranger From Car Fire

A man in California has a complete stranger to thank for his life today, less than a week after he was pulled unconscious from a burning car.

On Friday, during Gonzalo Outeiro's daily commute to his job at Guide Dogs for the Blind, the father of two noticed a car in a ditch just off Highway 101. He nearly drove past without a second thought, then for reasons even he can't quite explain, he decided to check it out.

"I was a heartbeat away from going to work," he told KTVU. "At the last second, I don't know why, I just said 'I've got to check it out.'"

On closer inspection, Outeiro found a 60-year-old man unconscious at the wheel, with his foot stuck on the gas and flames growing by the second.

Ryan Fischer, an off-duty firefighter, also happened to stop by the scene and together with Outeiro, the two were able to pull the man's limp body from the car as it burst into flame.

According to the Marin Independent Journal, the man was transported to a nearby hospital. Neither his condition nor his identity have not been released.
