Man Accused Of Cutting Off Dad's Genitals, Own Penis In Bizarre Incident

In a savage attack in Malaysia, a man cut off his father's genitals, before severing his own, local news outlets report.

Police believe the 40-year-old man was "influenced by a false religious belief he picked up from the Internet," according to Star Online. The brutal knife attack occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities responded to the scene and rushed the two men to a local hospital. Star Online reports that doctors at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu were able to successfully reattach both penises. Though the son is in stable condition, his 67-year-old father remains in intensive care.

K. Manoharan, the chief assistant commissioner of the Malaysian state's Criminal Investigation Department, explained to reporters that the man, who works as a mechanic in Balakong, returned home to tell his parents about the theory of an impending doomsday.

"He sent text messages to his three siblings asking them to come home and congregate on this pressing matter," Manoharan said, according to the New Straits Times.

The man cut off his father's genitals in an attempt to channel a spirit into his father's body, something the man said could only be done by making his father cry, Manoharan explained. The son also reportedly attempted to force his brother-in-law to do the same, but the man escaped unharmed.

The incident is one of several bizarre episodes of genital mutilation to make the news in recent years.

In February 2012, a 26-year-old man in China severed his penis before committing suicide. Months later, in San Francisco, a 20-year-old man used an X-Acto knife to cut off his penis for unknown reasons.
