Maria Adams Killed Over Missing Halloween Candy, Police Say

Police: Man Killed Woman Over Missing Halloween Candy

A Chicago woman died Saturday night after being stabbed multiple times on Halloween, allegedly by a male friend who was angry about a bag of missing candy.

Maria Adams, 49, was stabbed with "several steak knives" Monday afternoon in the home of Ledell Peoples on the South Side, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Peoples, 55, was charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated domestic battery, but first-degree murder charges are expected to be filed following Adams' autopsy, NBC Chicago reports.

Peoples allegedly "became so enraged over a missing bag of Halloween candy" that he stabbed Adams multiple times, police told NBC. He apparently thought Adams took the candy.

The Tribune reports that Adams threw plates at Peoples to defend herself, but died at Stroger Hospital Saturday night after being listed in critical condition since Monday.
