Tom Marino Resigned From The Justice Department While He Was Being Investigated

According to the Allentown Morning Call, Republican candidate in PA-10, Tom Marino, resigned from his position as a U.S. Attorney as he was being investigated. The report says that Marino was under review over a reference letter he gave to a convicted felon while working for the Justice Department. After resigning, Marino then went to work for Louis DeNaples, the felon in question, for $250,000 a year.

Justice Department policy requires that U.S. attorneys inform the Justice Department's Office of the General Counsel about referral letters. Marino claimed to have done so, indicating to WILK radio host Steve Corbett that he had permission from the Justice Department. A Justice Department spokeswoman confirmed that Marino never received permission for the referral. Marino later changed his story, saying he had not sought permission.

Marino is running against incumbent Democrat Chris Carney.
