Mark Halperin Addresses Death Panel Comments (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Mark Halperin addressed his previous comments on Tuesday, tweeting:

ORIGINAL STORY: Mark Halperin raised the specter of the notorious Obamacare "death panels" during an interview on Monday.

Halperin was speaking to Newsmax host Steve Malzberg when the subject came up.

"You believe there will be rationing, aka death panels?" Malzberg asked.

"It's built into the plan," Halperin said. "It's not like a guess or like a judgment. That's going to be part of how costs are controlled."

Talking Points Memo pointed out that rationing was not actually "built into the plan":

In fact, the Affordable Care Act does not include death panels.

The law explicitly prohibits the Independent Payment Advisory Board -- which aims to control costs -- from rationing health care.

Lest we forget, the "death panel" idea was chosen as PolitiFact's "Lie of the Year" back in 2009.
