Mark Sanford Reflects On Affair, Mistakes

During an interview that aired on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" on Monday, former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford (R) discussed the path he's taken since admitting to having an extramarital affair with an Argentinean woman in the summer of 2009.

"If you went through the level of destruction that I brought about in my own life, you have this yearning to construct something," he said on the program. "We get our priorities mixed up in life. Fundamentally, life is about relationships –- relationship to God and relationship to those around us."

Sanford sat down for an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity last week. He signaled that he has no intention of trying to revive his career in politics.

Jenny Sanford, the former governor's ex-wife, filed for divorce in the months following his admission to having an affair.

In a recent New York Times Magazine interview, Sanford addressed his relationship with Maria Belen Chapur, the Argentinean woman with whom he had an affair. He said, "We see each other as we can."
