It’s hard to believe that there will soon be a time when kids don’t remember that people of the same sex weren’t allowed to marry one another in the United States.
So how will we explain to them what life was like before the SCOTUS ruling on marriage equality in a way that is easily digestible?
The web series “Queer Kid Stuff” tackles this question this week, explaining the ruling in a way that’s both easy to understand and ― most importantly ― fun.
“Most children within the age range I am looking at will not remember the day same-sex marriage became legal in the United States,” Lindsey Amer, the creator and producer of “Queer Kid Stuff,” told The Huffington Post.
“They will not know a world where marriage was not allowed for gay couples in this country and I want them to know where we are coming from so we can move forward and continue to make strides toward true equality within our community across many more issues. This episode also introduces the idea that not all people are treated equally which is an unfortunate part of being LGBTQ+ that I’m going to go more in depth with in future episodes.”
