He was a pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1960 until his untimely death in 1968. Before that, he was pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, and his religious background is reflected in his choice of words and commitment to humanity.
