It's hard to know how to feel about Polish-born, New York-based artist Martynka Wawrzyniak's performance piece, Chocolate (2010). Is it gross? Is it suggestive? Is it political? Is it poignant? Explanations don't do it justice; the artist lays in a basin and a dribble of chocolate syrup slowly submerges her, but we're really watching her reactions, her sense of timing and tableau as she goes from nonchalant to gasping for air. At over 9 minutes, it's an excruciatingly intimate experience, but we're confident you'll emerge from it feeling inspired.
