Maryland, which boasts the terrapin as its state reptile, is slowly and steadily winning the medal-count race against most nations in Rio.

Swimmers with ties to the state had won a total of 13 medals at the Olympics ― including 10 golds ― as of Friday morning, according to the Baltimore Sun. If multiple members of a winning relay team were from Maryland, the Sun counted that as multiple medals.

Michael Phelps has accounted for four of the golds. Katie Ledecky has won three gold medals, plus a silver. Allison Schmitt, Cierra Runge, Jack Conger and Chase Kalisz also helped with the medal count.

For a state that ranked 19th in population last year, Maryland’s total is pretty impressive.
