Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) has won his re-election bid to represent Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate.
Markey fended off a challenge from Republican Brian Herr.
The Democratic senator was first elected in 2013 when John Kerry vacated his seat in the Senate to serve as secretary of state. Prior to serving in the Senate, Markey had served as a Democratic member of the House of Representatives since 1976.
