They hate us for our freedom.

And they'll do everything in their power to terrify us into giving it away.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Update Two commenters from opposite poles both interpret this post as a claim that Bush and friends are worse than the leadership of al-Qaeda. It doesn't say that, and I don't think it. My point was that Bush and friends are feckless and incompetent in opposing al-Qaeda, partly becaus they share the al-Qaeda leadership's enjoyment of hurting people. I have no interest in fighting the terrorists less vigorously; my interest is in doing so more effectively, and in doing so in ways that are like us and not like them.
