One of the great joys of following Matt Drudge on Twitter is gaining insight into the thoughts behind the headlines. Drudge is often even more unfiltered in 140 characters than he is in the headlines on his website, The Drudge Report — witness, for instance, his debate night tweet Wednesday night asking whether President Obama was on Valium:

I could not shake the feeling that O was on Valium tonight. His posture looked off, slanted, one shoulder up, head tilted. We'll never know

Unfortunately, though, Drudge has developed a disturbing pattern of deleting tweets.

After Wednesday's debate, Drudge tweeted, "THIS is why they didn't want Romney as nominee. Pro-Obama martharaddatz is their firewall in town hall. But long long two weeks."

That tweet has since been deleted, though remains visible in this retweet from Fox News fanatic Johnny Dollar:

Earlier in the week, after aggressively hyping a video of what he described as "Obama's other race speech" — a video widely considered a massive dud, and the latest in a string of overhyped stories — Drudge also almost completely cleared his Twitter record of the tape. Only one tweet about the video remains on the @DRUDGE Twitter account:

Curious tape dropping tonight. NOT from MOTHERJONES. Will cause controversy, ignite accusations of racism -- in both directions!

Meanwhile, several other tweets — retweeted by prominent members of the Twitter community — have been erased:

— Andrew Kaczynski (@BuzzFeedAndrew) October 2, 2012

None of those retweeted tweets appears on Drudge's Twitter page anymore.
