Sarah Jessica Parker knows a lot about relationships ― and it’s not just from her role as a sex columnist on “Sex and the City.” The 51-year-old actress has plenty of experience through her own marriage to fellow actor Matthew Broderick.
On Tuesday night, the duo attended the premiere of Parker’s new HBO show, “Divorce,” and talked to ET about the secret behind their nearly 20-year union.
“Communicating,” Broderick said. “Don’t go to bed mad.”
The 54-year-old said he’d offer similar advice to his wife’s on-screen husband in the new series, Thomas Haden Church. “Listen to her... just be kind to her.”
Broderick and Parker tied the knot in 1997 and have three children together.
The couple, who are usually tight-lipped about their marriage, seem to have figured out how to make their relationship succeed despite their high profiles and busy careers. And not saying too much is part of that.
Parker said in a 2014 interview with The Huffington Post that their marriage is their own business and that the couple don’t feel the need to talk about it publicly.
But Broderick has let slip what makes their bond to strong.
“We really are friends beyond everything else and we talk a lot,” he told Meredith Vieira in 2014. “She’s really funny, she makes me laugh.”
Well, there you have it. Here’s wishing the couple many more blissfully wedded years.
