Max Greenfield Interview: 'New Girl' Actor Shares His Top 5 Dating Tips

5 Dating Tips From Max Greenfield!

He may play a dating disaster as Schmidt on hit sitcom "New Girl," but in real life, actor Max Greenfield knows a thing or two about how to get the girl (or guy) of your dreams. The "New Girl" actor and star of a new web miniseries for AXE "Finding Susan Glenn" -- who now has a wife and a young daughter -- wasn't always as smooth as he is now. In high school, Greenfield confesses that he was "too shy to talk to any of the girls" -- but now, he'd like to think he's a little more dating-savvy than the hapless Schmidt. We caught up with Max over the phone to get his advice on finding love, dating and overcoming a major heartbreak. Check out his top 5 tips below!

Just Talk To Her! (Or Him) "Go talk to them! Yeah -- talk to them! You don't want to leave 'what if''s in life."

Make Sure There's Trust. "I think the most important foundation about any relationship is just being honest. You've got to. My wife and I are honest to a fault with each other, and we're best friends on top of it, so we're very fortunate."

Be Careful When You're Trying To Get Out Of The Friend Zone. "I think you kind of gotta let that situation play itself out naturally. And if it gets to a point where it gets too crazy for you to hang out in it as just friends and you just need to say something, I think you need to take that opportunity and risk looking like an idiot -– or ruining everything."

Face Your Fears. "It's not necessarily so much always about a girl, it's really about overcoming any fear or obstacles when you're like, 'I'm too afraid, so I'm not going to try.'"

Breaking Up Means Letting Go. "Acceptance is always a good word. [You have to say], 'I accept that this is done, we cannot live in the past, and we must move forward. And even if this is something that's meant to be, if it really is, then it will find its way back around. But let's not dwell on it.' There's nothing worse than walking around and talking about your failed relationship, all day, every day, for months on end."
