Max Greenfield Explains Why He Is 'The Artist'

Max Greenfield related a vacation story where he thought he was being mistaken for someone else on "The Tonight Show." While he thought a Mexican man was confusing him for a different person, he actually learned something about how "New Girl" is translated south of the border.

The man approached Greenfield and called him “The Artist.” Greenfield tried to explain to the man that he wasn't an artist, but the man was insistent.

"He goes, ‘No, you are The Artist from ‘That Girl,'" Greenfield said. "Apparently the show translates ... down in Mexico, [and] I’m ‘The Artist’ down there.”

It's certainly an unexpected translation for the character fans know simply as "Schmidt" in the United States. What exactly kind of art is he creating?

Maybe he'll create something amazing with "fellow" aritst Taylor Swift. The singer will guest star on the season finale of "New Girl" on May 14, where she'll play and "important guest" at Cece' wedding.

Catch "New Girl" this Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on Fox, and then back to its regular night and time next Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET. "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" airs every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
